ABOUT THE JUNIOR STRING ORCHESTRA
The Junior String Orchestra (JSO) is a string-only ensemble designed for an introductory orchestral experience for members who have intermediate skills in bowing techniques and reading music. They will continue to develop their individual technique and ensemble skills through rehearsals and performances, in preparation for participation in full orchestras. JSO performs annually at Bass Performance Hall, in addition to other venues around the DFW metroplex. While JSO members are (on average) elementary and middle school age, placement in JSO is ultimately based on the current ability level of each student.
Annual auditions are held for every position in JSO, including the following instruments: VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO, BASS. For more information regarding applications & auditions, visit our website’s “Apply & Audition” page or contact the FWYO Orchestra Manager at email@example.com.
JUNIOR STRING ORCHESTRA TUITION
Current JSO tuition is $450 (subject to change each year). Once offered a position in JSO, a deposit of $100 will be due in order to reserve your position, and will be applied to the tuition total. Tuition is set by the Board of Directors annually, and is non-refundable. Financial aid is available for those who apply and qualify.
The FWYO concert season consists of four major concert cycles. These four concerts are typically scheduled in October, December, March and May, and take place in Bass Performance Hall and other venues around the DFW metroplex. Occasionally, FWYO ensembles will perform additional outreach and community concerts.
Junior String Orchestra rehearsals are held on Tuesdays, 6:00–7:15pm at FWYO’s Orchestra Hall – 4401 Trail Lake Drive, Fort Worth, Texas, 76109.
The FWYO Young String Soloists Concerto Competition is held each November, and the winner will appear as a soloist with the String Orchestra the following spring. All members of the String Orchestra and Junior String Orchestra are eligible to apply, except the winner from the previous season.
It is recommended that FWYO students participate in their school music ensemble. Participating in both a school program and FWYO provides many benefits to young musicians, including experience in playing a wider variety of music, development of techniques and musicianship, and the opportunity to work with and gain experience from different music directors. When you play in your school orchestra program, everybody wins!
