FWYO Suzuki offers instruction on violin, viola, cello, and bass.  As in traditional methods of instruction, students take weekly private lessons with their assigned teacher at FWYO’s Orchestra Hall.  In addition, Suzuki students attend weekly group classes.  These weekly classes enhance the learning process by offering many benefits, such as social interaction, orchestral readiness, leadership, application of musicianship & theory concepts, performance experience, and many more!  Playing with other students is often a favorite part of a child’s music education, as it solidifies the material learned in the private lesson and reinforces it in fun, new ways!  Group classes form the core of our FWYO Suzuki community, and friendships forged through Suzuki group often continue as the students advance through the books, and even into the FWYO orchestra program.

FWYO Suzuki requires the active participation of a parent or guardian in lessons.  A parent’s presence, attention, support, and many other qualities create what we call the “parent environment for learning.”  We believe that parent involvement is crucial to your child’s success, and we find that both the student and the parent enjoy sharing in the musical journey together. Parent participation includes attendance at all lessons and group classes, and a willingness to serve as the child’s at-home practice partner.  This unity deepens the bond between child and parent, and teaches the child invaluable skills in collaboration, observation, and community.  Combined with the guidance and expertise of the teacher, this support system is part of what we believe makes the Suzuki method so special.

Being a part of FWYO Suzuki is a long-term commitment.  We plan to be here for you and your child, from Twinkle graduation to senior graduation!

EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC

Music & Movement is a 45-minute preparatory and exploration class. It is designed for infants through early elementary-aged children. Children will engage in listening, singing, movement, and play–creating a music foundation that enables a natural transition to formal music instruction. A parent or guardian must be present and participate with each child.

NEW STUDENTS

We ask new students to observe both private lessons and group lessons at our school before registering for lessons. Either before or after observing lessons, we ask that one or both parents attend an info session to learn more about the Suzuki Method and to ask questions of our faculty. Still have questions? Visit our FAQ page!
