FWYO SUZUKI

Private Lessons & Group Classes

Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass, Piano & Early Childhood

FWYO SUZUKI

FWYO Suzuki offers instruction on violin, viola, cello, bass and piano.  As in traditional methods of instruction, students take weekly private lessons with their assigned teacher at FWYO’s Orchestra Hall.  In addition, Suzuki students attend weekly group classes.  These weekly classes enhance the learning process by offering many benefits, such as social interaction, orchestral readiness, leadership, application of musicianship & theory concepts, performance experience, and many more!  Playing with other students is often a favorite part of a child’s music education, as it solidifies the material learned in the private lesson and reinforces it in fun, new ways!  Group classes form the core of our FWYO Suzuki community, and friendships forged through Suzuki group often continue as the students advance through the books, and even into the FWYO orchestra program.

FWYO Suzuki requires the active participation of a parent or guardian in lessons.  A parent’s presence, attention, support, and many other qualities create what we call the “parent environment for learning.”  We believe that parent involvement is crucial to your child’s success, and we find that both the student and the parent enjoy sharing in the musical journey together. Parent participation includes attendance at all lessons and group classes, and a willingness to serve as the child’s at-home practice partner.  This unity deepens the bond between child and parent, and teaches the child invaluable skills in collaboration, observation, and community.  Combined with the guidance and expertise of the teacher, this support system is part of what we believe makes the Suzuki method so special.

Being a part of FWYO Suzuki is a long-term commitment.  We plan to be here for you and your child, from Twinkle graduation to senior graduation!

EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC

We currently offer two courses:

Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE) is designed for children from 0-4 years old, to attend with their parents as partners. Classes last one hour. The curriculum was developed by Dorothy and Sharon Jones with Shinichi Suzuki and emphasize the belief that every child can learn when they following the language development (or “Mother Tongue”) approach.  Please click here to visit the SAA page for more information on the research behind this method.

The Early Childhood Music Class (ECM) is a 45-minute preparatory and exploration class. It is designed for infants through early elementary-aged children. Children will engage in listening, singing, movement, and play–creating a music foundation that enables a natural transition to formal music instruction. A parent or guardian must be present and participate with each child.

The Early Childhood Music Classes have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and will resume when FWYO Suzuki determines it is safe to continue.  We hope to resume these classes in January 2021.
